Composer born in Monaco, Yan Maresz represents a new generation of musical inventor. When starting out he met John McLaughlin, then went off to study at the Julliard School, in New York, thanks to a bursary from the Princesse Grace de Monaco Foundation, before entering the IRCAM (Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique, established by Pierre Boulez), in Paris. The festival therefore invited a living composer to work with the Academy of Music of Monaco and the conservatoires of the region, to perform some of his musical pieces with the students. This innovative educational work also enables our young people, our future audience, to explore today’s sound world.
